Als Nederland te maken krijgt met een tweede golf van de corona-uitbraak, zijn daar niet alleen meer medici voor nodig, maar ook meer materieel. Zo moet het aantal mobiele intensive cares (afgekort MICU's) worden verdubbeld, van zeven naar veertien. Verder moeten 25 ambulances speciaal ingericht worden om coronapatiënten te verdelen over het land. Dat zegt het Landelijk Netwerk Acute Zorg in zijn plan voor opschaling van de zorg.
Een MICU is een vrachtwagen die is ingericht als ambulance. Die kan zeven dagen per week rijden om patiënten van de ene naar de andere ic te brengen.
Het LNAZ stelt ook voor om een extra traumahelikopter in te zetten. Die kan patiënten over grote afstanden vervoeren. In een traumahelikopter zit een Mobiel Medisch Team (MMT), een ploeg van drie mensen.
